Bab El West is a passage without checkpoints to a fertile land where Maghrebian folklore meets rock and Berber poetry. It's also the fruit of a meeting between three musicians who are keen to establish a dialogue between musical cultures: the Maghreb meets the rock sound of the 1970s, whose energy infuses each Bab El West album.
The name Bab El West is no coincidence: “Gateway to the West” refers as much to the band's taste for novelty and experimentation, as it does to their attachment to two spaces that might seem far apart. Morocco and the Brittany peninsula touch without ever merging in rhythms and lyrics whose singularity lies in their ability to translate universal experiences. From Douar (“Village”, 2017) to Houdoud (“Frontière”, 2019) to Amane (“L'eau”), the third album scheduled for release on March 14, 2025, Habib Farroukh's pen unfolds a universe of symbols and metaphors, a celebration of Berber culture.
Since 2024, Bab El West has been presenting its new repertoire live in concert in France and the Maghreb.
