Flem : Nomades

Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, Flem has always navigated between different musical trends. When he was 18 he left by bus from Bamako to Timbuktu. This trip is a click. He returned to Mali in 2009 and met two artists there: Vieux Farka Touré, son of the legendary deceased, Ali Farka Touré, and the harpist Katell Boisneau. The Malian virtuoso invites him on stage during his concert at the “Festival au Désert” in Essakane. From this meeting a strong friendship will be born. After recordings in Paris, Flem returned to Mali in 2012 to finalize the arrangements for his 1st album, and participate in a concert by Vieux in Niafunké, stronghold of the Touré family. Northern Mali is already in the red zone ...
His 1st opus “Passeport” is a mix of world music, hip-hop and electro rhythms produced by pianist and DJ Mattias Mimoun. An exceptional concert at La Boule Noire with Vieux Farka Touré unveiled the project to the public in 2015. A reissue including the titles "Feel the music", and "Sans Frontières" with the Capverdien singer Izé Teixeira of the group MC Malcriado, was released in 2016 After a few concerts in France, Morocco and finally in Mali invited by the French Institute for the literary re-entry in Bamako in 2017, Flem is back in the studio. The mixtape "Avec Le Cœur" (ALC), will be released in 2018. This 100% rap opus, more tense and impulsive, reveals another side of the artist. We find the participation of Dany Dan (Wise street poets) and DJ Duke (Assassin).
In June 2019, Flem participates in the Paris New-York Heritage festival in partnership with the Paris town hall and gives a taste of NOMADS at the Barbara-Fleury Goutte d´Or Center. NOMADES is Flem's new album, entirely composed and arranged by his friend Vieux Farka Touré, nicknamed by the American media "the Hendrix of the Sahara". For 10 years, their friendship has grown at the rate of artistic performances and shared moments of life. The day after the concert in Niafunké in 2012, Flem and other Westerners were evacuated to Bamako via the Niger River, narrowly escaping an armed attack by AQIM. This event reinforces the bonds of Vieux and Flem and the need to launch after “Passport” in a new more militant and conscious project: NOMADS. Mandingo songs, poetically engaged texts and Tuareg melodies make up the album NOMADES produced between Bamako and Paris. Release scheduled for September 2020.
Inspired by contemporary artists like Oxmo Puccino or Abd Al Malik, but also by the heritage of song like Brassens or Brel, Flem affirms his signature: the union between committed rap lyrics and traditional West African sounds .
